<p>I know several people who, following the baby P case, have said they would be worried about taking their child to hospital in case they were accused of abuse. I do know somebody who took their child to hospital following an accident and had the child removed from her. Although this was later discovered to be a mistake and the child was later returned, it took many months to go through the courts and the parents and kids went through hell in the meantime. Also, when I took my own daughter to hospital, having split her head open, I was made to feel like a criminal. Luckily my daughter could give a full explanation for her injury.
I just wondered has anyone else experienced this, and how do you feel about taking children to hospital.

I have thankfully *touches wood* not had to take any of mines to hospital. But i know it is something that worries me deeply. And i know it would be a completely genuine reason they would need to go.

I would never not take them if they had a accident or something, but i know my heart would be going ten to the dozen.

This occurs to me. You find yourself justifying yourself in your mind, instead of focusing on what’s really important.
    That’s our Americanised society.
It’s getting to the point where people will simply not take their children to hospital if they can avoid it.

Listen if your child is injured you TAKE THEM TO HOSPITAL. No other thought in your head. Are you trying to say that some people, because of being afraid to be accused would NOT take their child to hospital. That is ridiculous.

i think this is harder for parents of younger children 2 and under.
my 6 year old 15 and 16 year old have been to hospital a few times and have always explained what has happened,
i do see some parents thinking they might be accused but if the child has injury’s like old broken ribs or bruises in places that would not be found from accidental injury i see why doctors worry

No I wouldnt, my son not so long ago badly broke his arm we didnt think about anything other than getting him medical attention

Although we was asked how the injury occured no insinuations were thrown our way and we were not "made to feel like criminals"

No I would not be afraid to take them in, my toddler recently pulled a hot drink on himself and he went in via ambulance. The staff were wonderful and understanding and did not question the incident once.

Doctors know that childhood accidents are a normal part of growing up! it’s only when there are fequent incidents or marks on a childs body that don’t look consistent with accidents that they could become suspiscious.

    No, I wouldn’t.

I would not be more concerned about my feelings than a child’s injuries.

If you act suspicious, then you will look suspicious, then you will be reported. Maybe some only look suspicious because they feel guilty for not looking after the child at the moment of the accident (being in another room for example, or letting them play with something they then injure themselves on).

Bottom line: child welfare comes first

When my daughter was a toddler she had a habit of banging her head on the floor in a tantrum, I was really worried about it in case she did herself real harm so i took her to the doctors to explain what she was doing, luckily, at the time my oldest child wound my daughter up in the doctors office and she had a fit, flung herself on the floor and began banging her head, I said "and that is what she does to herself" the doctor made a note of this on her records – it put my mind at rest that the doctor had witnessed it. She also did the same thing in hospital after she fell down the stairs, she was kept in overnight for observation and the next day when the doctors did their rounds, she stood up in her cot and began banging her head on the bars!
